The Way to Get: Black Marsh (WP) > The Forgotten Tower
Zone Level: Nightmare: 42 – Hell: 79 (Level 5)
Golden Chest: No
Boss/Champ Packs: 1 – 2 per level
Hell Immunities: Cold (The Countess, Dark Stalker), Fire (Devilkin, Blood Clan), Lightning (Dark Archer), Ghost (Physical)
The Countess is among the most well-known early game farms since she will drop one Rune almost every killing you do. In fact, during Nightmare, she’s capable of dropping at most minuscule six Runes (though you’ll never even see 3 Runes, let alone anything else)! The time spent farming her allows you to create any Runeword you’ll need to make your character.
This is why The Countess is among the most often early farmed bosses available at the beginning of every Ladder or anyone who is a Single Player who wishes to get ready with Runewords to play Nightmare Hell. Most people do not bother with the garbage around The Countess when they complete these runs. They also skip the total amount of trash you want to miss in The Tower dungeon.
In essence, people race across The Tower as fast as feasible, kill The Countess, collect the High Runes she drops, and take off immediately to run again. There are two points to note about the Lady Countess… First, she will always appear in the opposite part of the room that you walk into.
In the second, based on your map layout, the Countess could be tied in her room. You’ll be able to pull her minions from the room, but she’ll not go out of the room. You can utilize this to your advantage when you are not well-equipped or leveled or farming to Hell difficulty.
If you’re interested in what High Runes can be found in The Countess based on the game’s difficulty, Check out my list below. Remember that the Countess’ loot tables also work differently from regular enemies in terms of dropping Runes. She has one sure Rune drop and then another bonus Rune drop.
Regular Rune Drop Table
Normal: El – Ral
Nightmare: El – Io
Hell: El – Ist
Bonus Rune Drop Table
Normal: El – Ral
Nightmare: El-Ko
Hell: El-Lo
The standard Rune drop table is the one she drops every when you kill her. It includes the more popular Runes on the table. The bonus loot table generally contains the same Runes as the primary loot table, but with the addition of four or two rarer ones. The table is mentioned at the beginning of this guide. The Countess can drop as many as six runes in total. One of them comes from her usual loot table, and the others which fall are through her reward table.

If you’re playing on a single Player, I strongly suggest keeping the game’s setting to one player, as this will increase the chances of obtaining the Rune from the Table of Loots for the Countess. If you increase the number of players playing, you’ll increase the number of Magical items that drop at the hands of The Countess. This will decrease the chances of obtaining additional Runes since the Magical thing that falls could replace an actual Rune.
The Countess Normal difficulty High Rune is available.
